This isn't a new problem. Fact-checkers, OSINT investigators, and analysts have always done this work — verifying a claim, tracing a photo, checking a source against independent evidence. What's changed is the scale. A skilled investigator can spend hours running down a single image or claim. AI can now produce thousands of convincing ones in that same hour. The practice of investigation hasn't gotten any faster; the volume it has to keep up with has exploded.
